words for November

The way I light a candle in the morning to sit beside as I sip my coffee and relight it in the evening and carry it from room to room with me.

The contrast of bare branches against gloomy skies

The mist as it rises off the ocean in the morning sun

The fog that envelopes like a hug

The evening board games cozied up by the fire

The low light against the angry clouds that makes everything so moody.

The emptied beaches except for the locals and their dogs.

That last light dwindling, asking us to slow down and savour.

Soup and fresh bread season

It’s probably not a coincidence that I gave birth to November children.

I honestly can’t do November justice with words. It’s my favourite and it’s a feeling.

On that note, this November, I’m offering some special short sessions in honour of her.

Introducing the November Blue Hour Sessions

They will be photographed at the end of the sun. The first sessions will have a bit of sun leftover, but the 4:30 sessions will be in the blue. It’s a magical time where you glow against the light. We will have lanterns and warm wool blankest and thermoses of hot bevarages, perhaps a campfire if it’s safe.

Here’s my vision: wool blankets, thermoses with hot beverages, wool sweaters, winter coats (of the long, wool variety, not so much puffy jackets of various colours) scarves, lots of textures, and…. lanterns to give us some extra moody light. We will use the grass in the dunes as well as the sand. These are more editorial in nature with more guidance that I usually give during a session. I’m thinking they are probably more suited to couples or individual portraits, but if you think your kiddos can handle being in the cold for ½ an hour, feel free to book a family session.

d.
